Greetings!

I haven't posted on here in such a long time. There is so much to share.

As some of you know, my dad's esophagus ruptured on April 29th. According to the doctors my dad should have died on April 29th, but God had different plans. After Dad had surgery to repair his esophagus, hed was in a coma for two weeks. When they removed his breathing tube and gave him a tracheotomy, my dad slowly began to come out of the coma.

Very slowly my dad made small improvements day after day. First he was moved to a rehabilitation hospital; then, he was moved to another facility until he was recovered enough to come home. On July 6th, my dad came home. :-)

Below you see all but one of my children (1 was sick.) with their signs to welcome Grampy home. "Praise the LORD" is all that can be said.

You can see the cut on my dad's head in the picture below - just days before he came home, he fell and hit his head. He had to get quite a few stitches, but he is fine now. We were so thankful that did not delay his release to come home.

My dad preached again for the first time since surgery on September 13th. This is truly amazing. A few weeks later, my parents left to visit some churches, and my dad resumed preaching. My dad continued to have issues with nausea. Come to find out, he needed to have his gall bladder removed. He had that removed on Tuesday while they were in Virginia. Then on Saturday he preached in Maryland. He preached three more times on Sunday, and he is feeling tremendously well now! His appetite has even returned.

During the time my dad was in the hospital, my husband was laid off from his job. It was a tough summer, but God has been good to provide for bills to be paid. My husband is now in training as a manager at the Shack (Radio Shack's new name). We will be very excited when the training is completed, etc... There is some light at the end of the tunnel now.

On a VERY good note, my son participated in the first National Bible Bee in September. He placed in the top 100 for his age category, so we will be going to the national competition in Washington DC in November. He is studying very diligently, and he has a good chance of placing in one of the top spots. If he wins first place, he will be able to get braces soon, and the rest will be in a scholarship for college! What really amazes me is that he learned all of these verses while my dad was in the hospital and my husband was unemployed. This has not been my doing at all. It is God's working in a disciplined boy's life!

Please pray for my son that God will use His Word to work in his life, and that perhaps he will win!

As far as couponing goes... I have some catching up to do. I need to do some clipping and filing, but I am headed back into the pile of coupons! lol I am not sure where my blog is headed, but we are starting to get back into some routine at our house, so hopefully you will see more posts between now and the end of the year.

Please rejoice with us over all the LORD has done in our family over the past few months.
"The LORD has done great things for us, whereof we are glad!"

Update on my dad...

I have a caring bridge page for my dad. I may not always get an update in here. www.caringbridge.org/visit/lincroxton

Here is tonight's update though--

Overall Dad is the same as he has been all weekend. The doctors read the numbers from bloodwork and other tests and say that there is slight improvement, but it is slower than what they would like to see.

Dad had dialysis today, and they removed 9 pounds of fluid from his body in the process. I don't know how significant this is, but they say that this is good. They will begin dialysis again between 7:30 and 8:30 tomorrow morning. The swelling in Dad's face was a little lower than it had been as a result of the dialysis.

The surgeon who patched Dad's esophagus said that there is fluid in the right chest cavity now. They are going to look tomorrow to see if it has increased. They may place a chest tube on the right side of his chest also.

Dad did have a fever of 100.2 tonight, and that could be just from the dialysis. The nurses are checking all of the ports going into his body. They want to be careful as he fights infection that nothing more is introduced in that area. This is the key issue in dad's recovery - infection in his body. If the only thing you pray for concerning his physical healing is the infection you will be affecting nearly every other area of his body's trouble.

Thank you so much to all of you who have visited my dad. Mom said she overheard the nurses commenting about how many visits Dad has received. We pray that this will be used to reach those who are watching each day. His nurse tonight is Megan, and she is Jewish. She is great, and we pray that the LORD will do a mighty work in her heart. She is a blessing to us.

We have taken a portable cd player to Dad's room where it is playing all day and night as long as they don't need the outlet for something else. (It takes 6 batteries - C or D...I'll have to check again!) We are keeping Take Up Your Cross by John Zimmer playing. This is Dad's favorite cd. Below are the lyrics to Bow the Knee which John sings. Let it work in your heart tonight...

There are moments on our journey following the LORD
Where God illuminates each step we take.
There are times when circumstances make perfect sense to us,
As we try to understand each move He makes.
When the path grows dim and our questions have no answers, turn to Him.

Bow the knee; Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee; Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don't understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.

There are days when clouds surround us, and the rain begins to fall,
The cold and lonely winds won't cease to blow.
And there seems to be no reason for the suffering we feel;
We are tempted to believe God does not know.
When the storms arise, don't forget we live by faith and not by sight.

Bow the knee; Trust the heart of your Father when the answer goes beyond what you can see.
Bow the knee; Lift your eyes toward heaven and believe the One who holds eternity.
And when you don't understand the purpose of His plan,
In the presence of the King, bow the knee.

We love you all, and we are thankful for your care to us at this time. Please remember my sister-in-law, Debbie, as she deals with all of this while Calvin is in Iraq AND her own mother's death is impending.

My Dad....please pray!

I was going to try to get back to blogging this week, but it will have to wait a little longer. My father is very unexpectedly in ICU here in SC. It took about 24 hours to finally reach an accurate diagnosis, but he has an esophageal rupture. If they would have taken 12 more hours to perform surgery his chance of survival would have been only 10%. Of course, his survival is not left up to chance; we know God is in control. My dad is in grave condition. Right now he is sedated and not alert, and he is breathing by way of a respirator. The doctors will remove the respirator if possible at the end of the weekend. It appears that he will be in ICU for a minimum of 10 days, and possibly longer.

Please pray for him. His name is Lin Croxton. He is supposed to be preaching in several different churches over the next 10 weeks, so this affects a lot of people in other areas also. Thank you! Praise the LORD that the doctors were able to diagnose my dad's real problem before it was too late!

Hiatus

I am needing to take a hiatus from blogging. There are some things that I see in my daily life that need to change. One of those is my time on the computer vs. my time taking care of my family and house. I am working on setting some new norms in our home. I am not sure at this point how long I will be taking a break from my blog. If you need help or want to know about current sales and you know me in real life, feel free to call me. I also welcome your e-mails at "my_blogs" at hotmail (dot) com.

Also I will leave my printable coupon links here, so that you can print coupons at any time.

Gillette Fusion Gamer (Power) razor "review"

I finally got around to getting the Gillette Fusion razor this past week. My husband came out from getting ready for church yesterday and said, "These have to be the best disposable razors I've ever used. If you have a coupon for replacement cartridges be sure to get them."

Tonight he brought home some coupons from a friend at church. (I was home with our recovering sick ones.) He was sure to point out to me that there is a $4 coupon for the cartridges in the inserts. :-)

You will want to try these if you haven't already.

Walgreens has both the power and manual version for $8.99 this week (ending March 14, 2009). Use the $4 coupon AND get $4 Register Rewards back. Final Price after coupon and register rewards = 99 cents
